How Ryan Murphy Got Lady Gaga To Check InTo American Horror Story: Hotel

We know that Lady Gaga loves his monsters, but this news still took us by surprise: The music superstar announced on February 25th via Twitter that he would be starring in the fifth season of American Horror Story FX, which is will debut in October.

In a short video, Gaga, who starred on the big screen in 2013, 2014 Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame to kill For, AHS also revealed that this year could be subtitled hotel. The show has always attracted top talent (Oscar winner Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates appeared previously) and has even made some icons of music (Stevie Nicks and Patti LaBelle have had small roles). But to catch a global sensation level Gaga for a 13-episode series is nothing short of a miracle TV.

So how creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk do? EW has learned that Gaga and Murphy have been talking since last fall, and once the correct paper was handmade by her, she was completely on board. However, everyone involved was silent on speech-FX did not even know about Gaga interest in the show-realize what a coup it could be.

Viewers creative Freak Show last season may have really been able to predict this scoop casting. In episode 29 October, the camera focused significantly on a paper coffee cup with a big logo hat. Murphy told EW in October, "That's a great season 5 track! It's an arcane track, but is very useful and illuminating something you'll like, 'Oh! Dirty Bastard!'"

EW can now confirm that the image was directing viewers not only to the subject (the classic 1935 film Top Hat is in a hotel), but also Gaga (the song "Cheek to Cheek" was originally written for the hat and the title of the current album of duets with Tony Bennett Gaga). Details are scarce as to who or what-Gaga will perform at this hotel, but we're guessing it will be even more frightening than the hot tub at your local Holiday Inn.
